Meet our Wyoming Artist: Annette Anthony

The long-awaited release of the Wyoming Goldback series comes out next Monday! As such we wanted to give you all a little background as to how these beautiful bills were created. For this specific series we hired the extremely talented, Annette Anthony as the creative force behind the project. Mrs. Anthony is native Utahn and currently resides near Salt Lake City. Art had been in her family for generations and she cultivated this gift in her childhood. In high school an inspired teacher entered one of her watercolors into the Springfield Art Show. She was surprised and delighted to learn that she had won “Best of Show”. Art then blossomed into a regular hobby as she competed in various shows, drew for friends and used it as an “escape” from life’s typical stresses.

Annette was found by Goldback Inc. by the CFO Chris Jensen. She was selected for her delicate attention to detail and thoughtful use of imagery. Annette quickly threw herself headlong into the project and became totally immersed in the history of Wyoming, Indigenous cultures, local symbolism. She quickly set to work on developing blends of lady virtues, christian archetypes and traditional frontier trademarks. Her work is represented in the Wyoming Goldbacks and full descriptions of the artwork are found on the Goldback Website.

However, what remains unsaid in the descriptions are the discrete personal touches that showcase Annette’s glowing personality. For example, the Wyoming 25 portrays Annette’s love of dogs with a content collie front and center. In addition, each Wyoming bill carries a ladybug nestled into the portrait. Another touch is that the Wyoming 5 charades a wooden gallows as a rodeo pergola referencing the Esther motif. Finally the Wyoming 50 houses not only “Old Faithful” but also the locally known “Osprey Falls” as a characteristic landmark. Clearly, these Goldbacks have been thoughtfully designed to illustrate historical pride while maintaining awe for Wyoming’s natural beauty.

Beyond Goldbacks, Annette paints regularly for friends and family. She has been commissioned to create stunning portraits, landscapes and holiday gifts. In her personal life, Annette is a doting wife and a loving mother. When not drawing and sketching, Mrs. Anthony can often be found hiking, camping and adventuring with her husband. Annette is also active religiously in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she finds much of her inspiration for painting. We are so pleased with Mrs Anthony and are eagerly awaiting any future artwork that may come from her hand.
