Sound Money Is Winning—But the Fight Is Far From Over
In a recent Sound Money Matters Live interview, Kim Coleman, Director of Strategic Relations for Goldback, laid out a clear reality: the sound money movement is growing rapidly, but so are the threats.
Until this year, the industry lacked a unified coalition to engage in the legislative process. Coleman explained that the formation of the new Sound Money Trade Association—and the use of sophisticated tracking software—enabled monitoring of more than 100 bills nationwide this session. Many of them were attempts by states to create government-run depositories, establish governmental preferences for electronic gold, or allow states to mint competing coinage.
“We just don’t want state government going into financial services activities and starting to participate and to be a provider of services that are already being provided in the private sector,” Coleman asserts.
Working with industry allies, they succeeded in defeating most of the unfavorable proposals on the key principles of keeping the market free from government intrusion and not expanding the scope, authority and cost of implementing new state government operations.
But the association is still new, and Coleman hopes many other organizations get involved. “Your gold dealer may not even know about [the new law proposals] yet. Where you vault your gold privately may not even know that there’s likely a bill that has proposed having the state government come in and compete against [it].”
At the same time, positive momentum is building. States are increasingly exploring gold and silver as reserve assets, removing tax barriers, and recognizing them as legal tender. Goldback has worked alongside the Sound Money Defense League and Citizens for Sound Money to support these efforts.
From shaping legislation to building a practical ecosystem for everyday gold transactions, Goldback isn’t just participating in the conversation—it’s driving it.
